President Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

It was announced today that our president, Barack Obama, is the recipient for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” Congrats!

Obama 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

According to the AP:

A beaming President Barack Obama said Friday he was both honored and humbled to win the Nobel Peace Prize and would accept it as a “call to action” to work with other nations to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

Obama told reporters in the White House Rose Garden that he wasn’t sure he had done enough to earn the award, or deserved to be in the company of the “transformative figures” who had won it before him.

But, he said, “I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations to confront the challenges of the 21st century.”

Obama will travel to Oslo, Norway, in December to accept the award.

Here’s a little history about the award:

Facts on the Nobel Peace Prize
On 27 November 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will and testament, giving the largest share of his fortune to a series of prizes, the Nobel Prizes. As described in Nobel’s will, one part was dedicated to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses

Number of Nobel Peace Prizes
89 Nobel Peace Prizes have been awarded since 1901. It was not awarded on 19 occasions: in 1914-1918, 1923, 1924, 1928, 1932, 1939- 1943, 1948, 1955-1956, 1966-1967 and 1972.
Why were the Prizes not awarded in those years? In the statutes of the Nobel Foundation it says: “If none of the works under consideration is found to be of the importance indicated in the first paragraph, the prize money shall be reserved until the following year. If, even then, the prize cannot be awarded, the amount shall be added to the Foundation’s restricted funds.” During World War I and II, no prizes were awarded.

Number of nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009
Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee sends out thousands of letters inviting a qualified and select number of people to submit their nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The names of the nominees cannot be revealed until 50 years later, but the Nobel Peace Prize committee does reveal the number of nominees each year.
205 names were submitted for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, 33 of which are organizations. The Nobel Committees in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and the Prize Committee for Economics each usually receives 250-300 names every year, but this is the highest number of nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize ever. The last record was in 2005 when the Committee received 199 nominations.

Tyson:If I were a Gay, even just for a day…I'd totally do Obama–hypothetically, of course!

So one of my buddies sent a link from Thursday night’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Bravo. Last Thursday’s guest were Kandi Burruss and Tyson Beckford. Kandi’s commentary was unmemorable what made me clutch my pearls was Tyson’s response on the if he were gay…he said he would come after Obama so he “could be in control”

I’m not sure how many straight men would answer the question, nor am I sure how many would have a man in mind that they wouldn’t mind bonking PLUS I’m not sure how many straight would have already chosen a preference for being Top or Bottom…

I’m Just saying..

I Can’t

I Cannot

I Refuse.
