A press conference was held today stating that the autopsy performed on Shaniya Davis has determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation. Results of her autopsy also confirm that the 5-year-old was raped as well. Cumberland County police have confirmed that 29-year-old Mario McNeil will now being charged with First Degree murder and rape of a child.

The emotions surrounding this case are high as the details surrounding the case have been revealed. There are so many unanswered questions of how could Shaniya’s own mother, Antoinette Davis, and Davis’ sister’s ex-boyfriend, Mario McNeil do something like this? No child should endure such pain. 

As it stands, Antoinette Davis is accused with filing a false police report, child abuse, prostitution and human trafficking charges. It still unclear if she too will face murder charges.

November 10: Shaniya Davis was reported missing by her mother. Shortly afterwards, Antoinette Davis’ boyfriend was arrested in connection to Shaniya’s alleged kidnapping.

November 13:Mario McNeill was charged with 1st degree kidnapping once an employee from the Comfort Suites called police to tip them off on Shaniya, and the hotel surveillance video revealed Mario carrying Shaniya in the hotel’s elevator. Antoinette’s boyfriend was released.

November 14: Antoinette Davis was arrested and appeared emotionless before a judge.

November 16: Police received a tip and searched near a highway in Sanford, North Carolina and found the body of a little girl and later confirm it was Shaniya Davis.  

November 19: The autopsy confirmed that Shaniya had been raped and her cause of death was asphyxiation.
