Reports yesterday offered shocking news that rapper Guru of Gangstarr is in a coma. The 43-year-old rap star who made his name during the 80’s and 90’s suffered a heart attack on Sunday, and will undergo surgery later today in a New York hospital. Guru’s Gang Starr partner, DJ Premier, reported during a phone call to Hip Hop Nation that “Guru is in a coma and will go under surgery tomorrow afternoon”.
Guru, real name Keith Elam, is a backronym for “Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal”. The group Gang Starr originally formed together in 1985 in Boston, after an original version of the group disbanded and Guru heard a tape DJ Premier had made. Their first single “Words I Manifest” and the album “No More Mr. Nice Guy” arrived in 1989. They’ve released a total of eight albums including a double album greatest hits style recording. Some of Gang Starr’s hit records include “DWYCK”, “Take it Personal”, “Just to get a Rep” and “Mass Appeal”. The group hadn’t released any new material since their 2003 album called “The Ownerz”, but their were recent hints of a new album mentioned by Guru on Twitter.
Guru has also released several solo works including the Jazzmatazz albums which combine rap and jazz together. He recorded four such albums and did numerous tours. His best solo work to date has been Jazzmatazz Volume 3: Streetsoul which climbed as high as the #32 spot on the Billboard 200, and #8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. DJ Premier continues to provide background beats and production for other rappers. With the news that Guru of Gangstarr’s in a coma, a number of live Jazzmatazz performances have now been put on hold.
Today, Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates at 11:00 a.m. EST at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future, and he plans to apologize for his behavior.
While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between him and his wife, he also recognizes that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him. He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends, and that’s what he’s going to discuss.
His remarks will be open to a press pool for live coverage. It is NOT a news conference.

I’m not saying it’s always the best decision to step in to protect a complete stranger (especially given the violent nature of today’s youth). However in Seattle a 15 year old is getting beat up in a train station and right before the attack it seems she alert security officers that her attacker was coming in hope that they would do something. As the teen is repeatedly punched and kicked in the head by another 15 year old girl the 3 male security guards don’t do much to stop the attack. Why couldn’t one of the guards step in to stop the girl from getting beat up?
According to Daily Mail, the famed designer Alexander McQueen committed suicide, he was 40 years old.
British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead after taking his own life.
The 40-year-old committed suicide just three years after his close friend, Isabella Blow – who plucked him from obscurity and helped him become a star – killed herself.
A source at McQueen’s office this afternoon confirmed his death, saying: ‘It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.’
His death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week and weeks before he was due to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 9.

Leave it to our President to make the State of the Union address enjoyable. That’s right…no you didn’t read wrong I did say enjoyable. The President delivered one of his most poignant address to date tonight, I could go on for hours about the grandeur and greatness of the speech but instead I will spare you the adulation and give a quick list of 5 things you should have taken from this address:
1. “One year ago, I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt. Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted – immediately and aggressively. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed.” That’s right ladies and gents it seems that according to President Obama the worst has passed. Thank God. I was worried for a second (insert sarcastic laugh here). No but really the president conveyed a good sense of optimism and enthusiasm about the state of the economy. So keep this in mind folks we pulled through the worst of the storm so keep your eyes on the horizon the light shall soon come.
2. “To recover the rest, I have proposed a fee on the biggest banks. I know Wall Street isn’t keen on this idea, but if these firms can afford to hand out big bonuses again, they can afford a modest fee to pay back the taxpayers who rescued them in their time of need.” We are getting our money back gents ‘nuff said’. “So tonight, I’m proposing that we take $30 billion of the money Wall Street banks have repaid and use it to help community banks give small businesses the credit they need to stay afloat. I am also proposing a new small business tax credit – one that will go to over one million small businesses who hire new workers or raise wages. While we’re at it, let’s also eliminate all capital gains taxes on small business investment; and provide a tax incentive for all businesses, large and small, to invest in new plants and equipment.”
