French Vogue Thinks Blackface is Okay?
Blackface? Really? I am all for artistic and creative expression but Black face is an insult. No and, no but, no in certain cases its a plain DON’T. French Vogue gets an automatic #Fail for this irreverent, distasteful display. Model, Lara Stone and the editors and anyone behind this 14-page-editorial should be ashamed of this….I mean seriously, who approved this??! Who said “Hey, I think this will be a great idea?”
It boggles my mind that after editorial meetings a group of people thought that this was okay! Shut The Front Door! Ugh! I can’t. I cannot. I refuse.

i completely agree. and the designer of this line is an american. i know he knows the history behind black face. i think the fact that most europeans ignore race, and don't talk about it like we do in america, led to the publication of this 14-page spread. artists are always looking for ways to be fashion forward, riskay, and artsy behind comprehension. why not just enlist a black female model for the spread? are the artistic minds behind this project trying to say that black female models are not up to par/ black enough/ pretty enough to take on this project? absolutely disgusting and insulting.

I disagree. i see with these photos the designers and photographers are portraying the beauty of black culture and skin. The model"s face is not only covered with the "black" makeup her entire body is and i find beauty with the colored skin.

“Black face” or “black body” is still one in the same In my book, if they wanted to portray the beauty that is “black” skin then it could’ve been simply and respectfully done so by hiring any black model or model of color. There is no reason to paint someone the color they could’ve casted in the first place. The history of such distasteful portrayals is very deep and though it may seem that this is just a act on the surface since we are talking about “skin color” it’s not. It goes much farther and deeper into roots of racism and inclusion. To keep it from sparking controversy they could’ve casted a model with the look instead of panting on the color they “wanted.” There are enough models to choose from…so if the idea was to highlight “the beauty” of “colored skin” then they can choose someone that has that attribute…don’t you think that would be a fair choice?

Why not just hire black models? It’s rather ironic they went to such lengths to paint these white women black. Everyone knows the industry has a higher demand for white models.
