Yet another devastating loss over something so seemingly trivial. NY Daily News reports the investigation into the murder of 22, Kwame Dancy is being linked back to a Twitter argument.
It started as a simple Twitter beef, 140-character spurts of anger by two young men who grew up together.
But the tough talk exploded out of cyberspace and [...]

How befitting that this song leaks this weekend–a few days before Alicia Keys‘ album The Element of Freedom hits stores & a few days after the twitter rantings of her beau, Swizz Beatz and estranged wife, Mashonda…. I can’t. I cannot. I refuse to comment further.
“Remembering the days when our love began/ Thinkin of a [...]

Let me start by saying this twitter is not your friend. For anyone ever feeling a certain type a way, typing out your frustrations or thoughts on twitter is never the way to go. Now on to the story:

I read the book by her mom 72 Hour Hold before she passed, and it was good for me, my own mother has suffered from mental illness since I was 9 yrs old so I can identify, I’m 37 now and so I know 1st hand the trials and tribulations and my heart goes out to all those who suffer, they are good people that need medication from a doctor to function. Unfortunately some resort to drugs to hide from the disorder or cope but instead it magnifies the problem, alot of alcoholics and other drug users all suffer from some form of mental condition but are in denial or don’t realize without a proper diagnosis and unless they get professional help they fall victim to these false aids (drugs)and ridicule from people who don’t understand, but I do and awareness needs to be brought to the black community that these are our own family and friends and with some help, guidance, understanding they too can live successful lives, the road is hard and confusing but I can attest, my mother is doing well with the help of medication, but it took nearly 20 yrs because of the lack of knowledge within my family and sadly she had to figure it out alone and on her own but all things are possible through God, please don’t look down on her but learn of the plight that she has faced due to no fault of her own and which affects many others. No one asks for mental illness and because they behave differently and attract undesirable characters in their lives, people tend to take advantage of their weakness instead of lifting them up. My prayers are with her and all those who suffer either directly or indirectly because it can be heartwrenching to watch or deal with…….

Fortunately, I have the day to day experience with working with mentally ill individuals who also suffer from chemical addictions. Many self medicate because the symptoms of the illness are unbearable or they use drugs to try to escape the realities of understanding that they have a mental illness. Having a mental illness, especially in our community, has such a negative stigma that many rather stop taking their medication and go against their treatment plan. It takes A LOT of support and continuous encouragement. Can you imagine going from modeling and starring in TV sitcoms to one day being told that you have a mental illness….here take 2 to 3 pills a day to POSSIBLY help with your symptoms? I hope she truly finds the support she needs.
